Mobile Mechanic for Jeeps, Pickups & SUVs — We Come to Your House
Updated October 2026If you've been searching for a mobile mechanic near me, Heritage 4x4 Outfitters brings the repair to your driveway, evenings and weekends, with no trip fee. We cover about 30 miles around Louisville, including Southern Indiana. We work on Jeeps, pickup trucks and SUVs, and only those. You talk to Noah, the owner, and Noah does the work.
A Mechanic That Comes to Your House Should Diagnose Before Selling Parts
The point of a mobile mechanic isn't only convenience. It's that you don't have to tow your truck, find a ride, take a day off and wait for a call telling you what you owe. But convenience is worth nothing if the mechanic who shows up guesses, swaps parts and leaves without fixing the problem.
So every job starts with a diagnosis. Noah finds what's actually wrong, tells you in plain words, gives you a price, and only then starts the repair. If it's a job for your driveway, it gets done there. If it isn't, you hear that up front, before you've paid for anything.
What Our Mobile Mechanic Service Covers
With diagnosis first, here's the work we bring to you. Each type of repair has its own page with more detail.
Diagnostics
Check engine lights, running problems, leaks, noises and vibrations. For older Jeeps (JK and earlier), we diagnose engine and running problems. For pickups and SUVs, we diagnose brake, steering, suspension and noise problems at your place. Either way, you get a clear answer on what's wrong before you spend money on parts.
Brakes
Pads, rotors, calipers, lines and fluid, done in your driveway. Squealing, grinding, a soft pedal or shaking when you stop. Our mobile brake repair page covers it.
Steering, Suspension and Death Wobble
Loose or wandering steering, clunks over bumps, worn shocks, and the violent shake at highway speed that Jeep owners call death wobble. Ball joints, tie rods, track bars and steering boxes are covered on our steering and ball joint repair page.
Maintenance
Oil and fluid changes, transfer case and differential fluid service, filters, batteries, belts and hoses, plus pre-trip checks. The everyday work is on our services page.
Exhaust, Electrical, Body and Trim
Exhaust leaks and rattles. Electrical problems, though call first, because not every electrical job can be done in a driveway. Replacement of damaged body and trim parts (no filler or paint).
Upgrades
Lift kits up to 3 inches and leveling kits, bumpers, winches and armor, off-road lighting and other truck accessories, installed at your place.
Bigger Jobs
A few jobs need a shop floor instead of a driveway: regears, frame work, transfer case and manual transmission rebuilds, and lifts over 3 inches. Those are by arrangement. Ask us, and you'll get a straight answer on whether it's one we can take on.
Mobile Mechanic vs Shop — What You Gain and Where Mobile Stops
All that work covers most of what a Jeep, pickup or SUV needs. Still, it's fair to ask how a mobile mechanic compares with taking your vehicle to a shop. Here's the honest version.
What you gain with mobile repair:
- No tow for a vehicle that shouldn't be driven, no drop-off and no ride to arrange
- No lost day: appointments run evenings and weekends, so the work happens when you're home, not while you're at work
- You can see the worn parts and ask questions while the work happens
- You deal with one person. Noah answers the call, diagnoses the problem and does the repair, with no service writer in between
- A lower bill: no storefront, no showroom and no front-office staff built into the price
Where mobile stops:
- Bigger jobs that need a vehicle lift, a press or a shop floor. Those are by arrangement, so ask us.
- Alignments, which need an alignment rack. After steering and suspension work, we'll tell you when you need one and send you to an alignment shop.
- Automatic transmission repair, which we don't do
- Some apartment complexes and HOAs don't allow repairs in their lots. Check before you book, and we'll find another spot if needed.
The honest version: for most brake, steering, suspension, maintenance and upgrade work, mobile repair is as good as a shop and a lot easier on your schedule. When a job isn't right for a driveway, we'll tell you before you spend a dollar.
Is a Mobile Mechanic Right for Your Repair? A Louisville Driver's Guide
Knowing where mobile stops makes it easy to sort your repair into one of three groups.
Done in Your Driveway
Brakes, ball joints, tie rods, track bars, shocks, steering components, death wobble repairs, maintenance, batteries, filters, exhaust, lift kits up to 3 inches, leveling kits, armor, lighting and other bolt-on accessories. These are most of what we do.
Bigger Jobs, by Arrangement
Regears, frame work, transfer case and manual transmission rebuilds, and lifts over 3 inches need a shop floor. They aren't something we book online. Ask us about yours, and we'll tell you honestly whether we can take it on.
Sent Elsewhere
Alignments go to an alignment shop, and we'll tell you when you need one. Automatic transmissions and work on cars, minivans or crossovers aren't jobs we take on, and we'll say so right away instead of wasting your time.
What We Need at Your Place
A safe, reasonably level spot to park the vehicle with room to work around it: a driveway, a garage or a parking lot where repairs are allowed. You don't have to stay home for every job.
How Much Does a Mobile Mechanic Cost?
Once you know where the job happens, the next question is price. Is a mobile mechanic cheaper than a shop? Often, yes. There's no tow and no lost day of work, and because we don't carry a storefront, a showroom or a front office, we can charge less without cutting corners on the work. Here's what we can tell you now:
- Labor: $120 an hour.
- Diagnostic: $120, when there's a problem to find. We pin down what's actually wrong before we quote the repair, and the death wobble diagnostic is the same $120.
- Free quotes on flat-rate jobs like brakes and accessory installs, by phone, from a few photos, or with a quick stop at your house.
- No trip fee anywhere in our service area, about 30 miles around Louisville.
- Routine maintenance: from $120.
- Suspension repair: from $275, depending on the parts.
- Brake pads and rotors: from $450, parts and labor, on Jeeps and half-ton pickups. More on our mobile brake repair page.
- Steering and ball joint replacement: $2,000–$3,000 for full front-end steering work on a Jeep, depending on the parts it needs.
- Lift kits up to 3 inches: labor from $800, kit extra.
- Leveling kits: labor from $200, kit extra. Both are on our lift and leveling kit page.
- Everything else: a clear quote before any work starts.
Parts come from the same suppliers shops use, usually in 1–3 days, and Noah brings them to the job. What moves the number: the parts the repair needs, whether you supply them, and how long the job takes.

What a Good Mobile Mechanic Visit Looks Like
The price only means something if the work behind it is right. Here's what Noah does on every visit, whether it's a brake job or a front-end rebuild.
We Diagnose Before We Quote
We test drive, inspect and pin down the cause, so you pay for the fix and not for guesses. Death wobble is a good example: it's usually more than one worn part, and replacing the wrong one first doesn't stop it.
We Bring the Right Tools
A mobile visit only works if the right tools come with it: jacks and stands, torque wrenches, diagnostic tools, and the specialty tools Jeep and truck front ends need.
We Show You What We Found
We show you the worn part before it comes off, explain what it does, and tell you what can wait and what can't. You decide what gets done.
We Use Parts That Fit the Job
Quality parts matched to the vehicle, and brands like Teraflex, Yukon and Warn on Jeep work. Because Noah orders them himself, the right part shows up the first time. We'll also install parts you've bought. Our labor carries a lifetime warranty, and parts carry their manufacturer's warranty, whether we supply them or you do. The details are in our terms and conditions.
We Check It Before We Leave
Torque checked, a test drive, and a walk-through of what we did. If an alignment is needed after steering or suspension work, we tell you and point you to an alignment shop.

Mobile Jeep Mechanic — Plus Pickups and SUVs
That process is built around the vehicles we know best. We're Jeep specialists first, and the same front-end, brake and suspension know-how carries over to pickups and SUVs.
Jeeps. Wrangler TJ, JK and JL, Gladiator, Cherokee XJ and older CJs. Death wobble, steering, suspension, brakes, diagnostics on pre-electronic Jeeps, lifts, armor and lighting.
Pickup trucks. Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, Ram 1500, Toyota Tacoma and Tundra, and similar trucks. Brakes, steering, suspension, leveling kits and maintenance. More on our truck and SUV repair page.
SUVs. Brakes, steering, suspension and maintenance.
What we don't work on: cars, minivans and crossovers. We'd rather be the best mechanic for your Jeep or truck than an average one for everything.
4 Mistakes People Make Hiring a Mobile Mechanic
Knowing who you're hiring matters as much as the vehicle. These are the mistakes we see people make when they book a mobile mechanic.
1. Hiring a parts swapper
Some mobile mechanics replace the most likely part and hope. If the problem comes back, you've paid twice.
How we do it: a real diagnosis first, and a clear explanation of what failed.
2. No price before the work
Starting a repair without an agreed price is how a $300 job becomes a $900 bill.
How we do it: a published $120 hourly rate and a clear quote before any work starts.
3. Forcing a driveway job that needs a shop
Some repairs can't be done right on a driveway. A mechanic who tries anyway cuts corners.
How we do it: we tell you up front when a job isn't a driveway job, before anything comes apart.
4. Not knowing who shows up
With app-based services and bigger outfits, the person you talked to often isn't the person who works on your vehicle, and they may not know Jeep solid axles or truck front ends.
How we do it: Noah answers, diagnoses and does the work, and he works only on Jeeps, pickups and SUVs.
A Mobile Mechanic for How Louisville Works
Those mistakes cost more when your truck is how you get to work. Between I-64, I-65, I-71 and the Gene Snyder, most Louisville-area drivers depend on their vehicle every day. A pickup down for brakes or a Jeep that shakes at highway speed means missed work and a scramble for rides. A mechanic who comes to your house on an evening or a weekend means the repair happens without that scramble, and without losing a day of pay.
Louisville's weather plays a part too. Winter road salt eats into brake lines, hardware and exhaust parts, and the potholes that follow freeze-thaw season wear out ball joints, tie rods and track bars. That's why so much of our work is brakes and front ends, and why we check the whole system instead of the one part you called about.
We cover both sides of the river, from the East End and Oldham County to Bullitt County and across the bridges to Jeffersonville and New Albany. Our mobile mechanic in Louisville page covers the city and nearby neighborhoods in more detail.

Mobile Mechanic Questions, Answered
Is there a mobile mechanic near me who works on Jeeps and trucks?
Yes. Heritage 4x4 Outfitters is a mobile mechanic for Jeeps, pickups and SUVs across Louisville and Southern Indiana, within about 30 miles. We come to your home or work on evenings and weekends, with no trip fee inside our service area.
Who actually works on my vehicle?
Noah, the owner. He answers the call, diagnoses the problem and does the repair himself. There's no service writer in between and no technician you've never met, so the person who explains what's wrong is the person who fixes it.
Do you work on cars, minivans or crossovers?
No. We work only on Jeeps, pickup trucks and SUVs. Focusing on these vehicles is how we stay good at them, and we'll tell you right away, on the first call, if your vehicle isn't one we take on.
Is a mobile mechanic cheaper than a shop?
Often, yes, once you count everything. Our labor is $120 an hour, the diagnostic is $120, and there's no trip fee within our service area. There's also no tow, no ride to arrange and no lost day of work. Without a storefront or front office to pay for, we can keep the price down without cutting corners, and every repair gets a clear quote before any work starts.
What repairs can't be done in my driveway?
Bigger jobs that need a shop floor, like regears, frame work, transfer case and manual transmission rebuilds, and lifts over 3 inches, are by arrangement, so ask us about yours. Alignments go to an alignment shop, and we don't repair automatic transmissions. Nearly everything else, including brakes, steering, suspension, maintenance, leveling kits and most upgrades, gets done at your place.
Do I need to be home during the repair?
Not always. As long as we can reach the vehicle and you've approved the quote, we can work while you're away. We'll call you when it's done.
Can you work at my apartment complex or office?
Usually, if the property allows repairs in its lot. Some apartment complexes and HOAs don't, so check first. If yours doesn't, we'll work out another spot with you. Appointments run weekday evenings from 5 to 8pm and weekends from 8am to 8pm, so an office lot works if you're there during those hours.
Do you work in the rain or cold?
We work through most Kentucky weather. In heavy rain, ice or extreme cold, we may reschedule to protect the quality of the repair, and we'll tell you ahead of time.
How do I book a mobile mechanic?
Fill out the Request Service form or call (502) 557-6786. Tell us the year, make and model, what it's doing and when it started, and Noah will call you back to set a time. The more you can tell us up front, the better prepared we show up.
